Top 5 Hidden Gems of Bellingen
Our beautiful Bellingen is brimming with activities to suit all ages and tastes. Some of the obvious (and wonderful!) picks are the monthly community markets and the galleries at the Old Buttery Factory. However, if you’re interested in something a bit quieter and more local we’ve got you sorted. Read on for Bello’s best hidden gems.
1| Picnic at Northbank Community Garden
Located on the northside of Bellingen, Northbank Community Garden is a maze of garden beds and social spaces. The gardens began in 2008 and now boast a huge range of edible and ornamental plants. Wandering through the garden, you’ll discover a variety of fruit trees, medicinal herb gardens and unique and rare vegetables. The views from the garden are also impressive with a sweeping gaze over the Bellinger river and valley. Northbank Community Garden is the perfect spot for a picnic lunch, lazy afternoon or slow stroll.
2| Feast at Bellingen Growers Market
If you love local seasonal organic produce, delicious homemade goods and non-hybrid seedlings the Bellingen Growers Market is your place to be. Grab a few organic veggies, some aromatic local herbs and feast on local seasonal fruit. Our favourite products are the Valla macadamias, Gerbuchi fermented tonic and whatever fresh berry looks the juiciest! The market includes a cafe green featuring live, local music. The market is held every Saturday from 8:00am to 1:00pm at Bellingen Showground, Cnr Hammond and Black Streets, Bellingen.
